For Musicians
For those following my article on Musicians Wages.com here are some
sound samples to show my attempts at creating realistic back up tracks
for my solo performances.  These are all Caribbean traditional melodies
to keep things sounding similar.
This is a backup track for Jamaica Farewell  made from MIDI files and a one
track of my own instrument.  I played that track in a contrasting octave from
the one I will play during a live performances.  I don't expect it to sound as
good as a studio recording but it does add something to the gig.
Jamaica Farewell backup track
Here is the same song as it would sound with my instrument playing
against the background track.
Jamaica Farewell with Dulcimer
Here is a studio track with real instruments.  It is a similar type of song
although not the same as above.  No MIDI instruments here. Thankfully, we
can't be replaced that easily!

The song is "
Come Back Liza" from my World Music Favorites CD.

Dulcimer students:

Here are some files for "Spanish Eyes".  It is a simple melody with a little
harmony.  The one tough spot is the Eb but otherwise pretty simple.  There
are 2 MIDI files for you to practice with. One is a slow version, the other
faster.  You can work on the melody first, then work on filling in some
arpeggios in a Latin rhythm.
